New Delhi : Aiming to benefit from Japanese expertise and cooperation in running bullet trains, Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Thursday discussed the issue with Japanese Minister for Land Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Takeshi Maeda.
The Japanese minister held a meeting with Trivedi here.
In the Railway Budget 2010-11, the ministry had announced for setting up of a National High Speed Rail Authority (NHSRA) for planning, standard setting, implementing and monitoring of High Speed Rail projects.
There have been efforts from both sides in last one year in the direction of High Speed Train System.
A delegation led by Ryuhei Maeda, Japanese director general for International Affairs had visited Delhi in October 2011 and held interaction with Trivedi and Railway Board officers.
This was followed by a visit of Indian Railway officers to Japan to have first hand understanding of Shikansen system.
Indian Railways has identified six corridors for conducting pre-feasibility studies. These are Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar, Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Hyderabad-Dornakal-Vijaywada-Chennai, Chennai-Banalore-Coimbatore-Ernakulam-Trivandrum, Howrah-Haldia and Delhi-Agra-Lucknow-Varanasi.
