European Commission Executive Vice-President (EVP) for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans concluded his three-day visit to India on Friday.
The visit focused on preparations for COP26 and on strengthening EU-India cooperation against climate change and biodiversity loss, said a European Commission.
Timmermans met Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri.
He also participated in the opening session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and met stakeholders, including think tanks, business associations and youth.
Timmermans and Yadav reflected on the recent floods in India and Europe and the strong scientific evidence, which requires strong signals of commitment at COP26. — TNS
India ‘vulnerable’
A report by the US Office of Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) says India and Pakistan are among 11 countries singled out and marked as highly vulnerable in capabilities to respond to environmental and societal crisis triggered by climate change. The ODNI says global warming will increase and intensify the geopolitical tensions.
