Hindu Community Celebrates Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami at Hindu Temple of Lake County


GREYSLAKE, ILThe Hindu Mandir of Lake County in Grayslake, IL celebrated the start of the Hindu New Year with a nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival from March 22nd to March 30th. The festival began with a Lord Ganesh Puja and Kalash Sthapana for Devi Maa and Ram Parivar, and hundreds of devotees participated in fasting and praying to the nine avatars of Goddess Shakti. On the last day, Ram Navami was celebrated with an Abhishekam of Rama Lalla and the placement of Baby Rama in a decorated Jhoola.

Throughout the festival, Devi Maa and other deities were offered new Alankaram and Vedic Pujan, along with daily recitations of the Durga Saptashati Path and Devi Maa Mahatmya. On Ashtami day, a Kanya Pujan of young girls was held with much enthusiasm, where the girls were washed and given gifts and goodie bags.

The temple priests, Pt. Anil Joshi Ji, Pt. Radha Krishna, and Pt. Balaji Gopal, expressed their gratitude to all the devotees, volunteers, and sponsors for their support and active participation. The priests blessed all the attendees for their health and prosperity.

In conclusion, the Chaitra Navratri festival provided an opportunity for devotees to turn inward and awaken through prayer, meditation, and chanting, while also celebrating the birth of Lord Rama and seeking blessings from the nine avatars of Goddess Shakti.
