SCHAUMBURG, IL – Asian American community activist Hetal Patel, 39, has for the first time thrown her hat into the ring in the elections for the Schaumburg Township Library Board.

“I feel that being an ethnic minority, I can bring about diversity and represent and strengthen our diverse community as a whole, says the mother of two, adding that she also wants to promote the values a public library brings to the community such as literacy, educational programs for all ages, and a heightened sense of learning.

A bachelor in political science from Loyola University, Chicago, the award-winning trustee of the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) says that her young children and older parents are a part of the Schaumburg Township and hence she wants to ensure that the library continues meeting the needs of all ages.

Patel, who also owns an information technology consulting and staffing agency, says that since technology is constantly evolving, with her experience in owning an IT firm, she can help bring a balance with future technologies within the arena of library services and the more traditional library services.

“This, I feel, will keep the library relevant to all members of our community, “, asserts Patel, who was the youngest and first female president of FIA. A Youth Coordinator of Gujarat Cultural Association, she was on the Asian Americans Supporting Chicago Olympics 2016 Candidate City Committee, and is now a volunteer of the Bochasanwasi Aksharpurshottam Swaminarayan Sanstha.

Being an entrepreneur with financial acumen, her background in strong financial understanding has prepared her well to take on responsibility for hard working tax-payers in using tax dollars in the best effective way to enrich the local community and prepare the youths to compete in this global economy without raising taxes.

Patel, who has an impressive personality, has won several awards–Cook County Circuit Court Award for Leadership, Financial Accountability, and Administrator of the Year; Illinois Secretary of State–Humanitarian Award; FIA Exemplary Community Service Award and boasts of exceptional contribution to City of Chicago.
