Sao Paulo (Brazil), Oct 3: Brazil's Gremio, champions of the 2017 Copa Libertadores, thrashed Argentine Atletico Tucuman 4-0 and qualified for the semi-finals where it will play against Argentina's River Plate.
The easy victory came after Gremio's previous 0-2 win against Atletico Tucuman in the first-leg match on Tuesday night.
At the Arena do Gremio stadium, the Brazilian team, coached by Renato Gaucho, opened the scoring in the 35th minute thanks to Luan, reports Efe news.
The Argentinian team faded with that goal and nearly disappeared when, in the 40th minute, they were left with only ten players following the red card dismissal of goalkeeper Cristian Lucchetti after he dragged down striker Alisson.
Cicero converted the ensuing penalty shot in the 45th minute and Alisson scored in the 52nd minute, followed by another one from Jael in the 91st minute.
Gremio, which already eliminated Argentina's Estudiantes in the second round, will now face River Plate in the semi-finals.
