SEATTLE, WA–Seattle police has arrested a man for an alleged hate crime against
Indian American Rep Pramila Jayapal. According to reports, a man drove past Jaypal’s house yelling: “Go back to India.” “I am going to kill you.”
According to documents, a neighbor said that she saw the suspect drive past Jayapal’s house three times in the same night.
According to King5.com, Jayapal herself called 911 at 11:25 pm and reported: ” people are outside the house in their [vehicle] who have been [using] very obscene language. [My] husband thinks they may have shot a pellet gun, but unsure.”
The police is said to have immediately arrived on the scene where they found the man on the street with his hands up and he had a handgun holstered on his waist.
King County Prosecutors have asked for $500,000 bail, as they say the suspect is a “danger to the community.” The man is currently in the King County Jail, as he awaits formal charges.
Prosecutors said there is probable cause to charge the man with a hate crime threat.
Meanwhile Jayapal too posted on her Twitter too confirming the incident.
