Madrid, Jan 6: Spanish club Getafe Monday confirmed Quique Sanchez Flores as their new coach.

Flores replaces Cosmin Contra, who Sunday confirmed his departure from the Madrid-based outfit to sign for Chinese club Guangzhou. He has agreed a two and an half year contract to take him back for his second spell at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum, reports Xinhua.

The former Valencia and Real Madrid player was in charge of Getafe for the 2004/5 season, guiding them to safety in what was their first ever campaign in the La Liga.

He left Getafe to coach Valencia and has also worked with Benfica and Atletico Madrid, as well as in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

"It has been 10 years since I left here and I wanted to come back to a place where I was happy. I have only been back for a few hours and it feels as if I have never been away," said Sanchez Flores, who added that he had the obligation to fulfil the club's objectives.

"We will work in a professional manner and I hope people will be able to see the results of our work very soon," added the coach, who will make his debut in the Getafe dugout in the last 16 of the King's Cup when his side travel to face Almeria Wednesday night.
