Gas Thieves Targeting Cars, Gas Station: Officials Warn

LOS ANGELES CA- As gas prices continue to climb, thieves are turning to steal gas through a variety of ways that include targeting gas stations or individual vehicles.

Police around the country are warning drivers to be on the lookout for gas thieves.
On March 10, Eyewitness captured the scene at a Long Beach gas station on Redondo Beach Boulevard where police surrounded three vehicles, caught in the act of allegedly trying to steal gasoline.

Police say one person was taken into custody. A suspect paid for $20 worth of gas, but was able to physically damage the pump to not shut off or alert the cashier, officials said.
The Auto Club of Southern California says there’s a few ways to keep your vehicle safe.

“If you do have a vehicle in a driveway, park it in a garage if you have one. If you’re parking in public, look for fenced in areas. Maybe something with a surveillance camera so people can’t get into that secured parking area,” said Doug Shupe with the Auto Club of Southern California.
