We have finally entered the year 2022 and for movie buffs, we can call this year a blissful one as the filmmakers are churning out some interesting content this year.
Today, we bring you a list of the most anticipated Indian movies of 2022, according to IMDb. This list was determined by the website on the basis of the page views they received, with more than 200 million monthly users.
(This list is no particular order)
1: RRR (January 22)
Director SS Rajamouli’s RRR is a fictional story of two Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR, respectively. The big-budget action entertainer is produced on a whopping budget of Rs 450 crore. The movie also features Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in pivotal roles.
“This will be a fictional story on the lives of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. There are gaps in the lives of these legendary freedom fighters that we don’t know about. We don’t know what happened in their lives in these years. It is through this fictional story we’d like to show what could have happened in their lives and what would have happened if they met and bonded,” Rajamouli had said at the film’s launch in 2019.
2: Gehraiyaan (January 25)
Filmmaker Shakun Batra’s upcoming film Gehraiyaan, starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa, is set to have its world premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 25, 2022.
According to the makers, the Amazon Original talks about the “depths of complex modern relationships, adulting, letting go and taking control of ones’ life path”.
It also features Nasseruddin Shah and Rajat Kapur in pivotal roles. The film is jointly produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios in association with Batra’s Jouska Films.
3: Laal Singh Chaddha (April 14)
Laal Singh Chaddha is the Hindi remake of Hollywood star Tom Hanks’s 1994 Hollywood film Forrest Gump. In the original film, Tom Hanks played the role of a slow-witted guy who witnessed some historical events of the United States in the 20th century.
In the movie, we are getting to see Aamir Khan as a Sikh guy and people have been waiting to watch him on the big screen as his look from the movie was very well received. The film will span over five decades in the life of the main character.
4: KGF Chapter 2 (April 14)
KGF: Chapter 1, starring Kannada superstar Yash, made history at the box office and was appreciated by the viewers for its fresh content. Just like the first film, KGF Chapter 2 will be made in Kannada and dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, the film features Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj, Malavika Avinash and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles.
5: Gangubai Kathiawadi (February 18)
Gangubai Kathiawadi is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and this is his first collaboration with Alia Bhatt who plays the titular role. The movie has been adapted from one of the chapters of Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
The movie will see Alia as Gangubai Kothewali, a gun-wielding and one of the most powerful, loved, and respected brothel owners of Kamathipura brothel during the 1960s. Sold into prostitution very young, Gangubai became influential in the city, with notorious criminals serving as her clients.
6: Brahmastra (September 9)
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra is a superhero film jointly produced by Fox Star Studios and Dharma Productions. The film was earlier slated to release in theatres on December 4, 2020. The film’s release was delayed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The three-apart fantasy trilogy will release in five languages. Brahmastra also features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and Dimple Kapadia in key roles.
At the motion poster launch, Ranbir said, “It’s been eight years and I remember we were shooting for the last leg of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ayan had a very basic idea of a young man born with a great power that he fully doesn’t understand. It’s been a lot of hard work, blood, tears, and sweat that has gone into it. It has taught me something you and I should live by that we have to hold on to the fundamental quality of having faith. I miss my father terribly today and he kept fighting with us because it took us many years. I hope he is proud of us and he is watching us.”
7: Dhaakad (April 8)
Kangana Ranaut’s spy thriller Dhaakad is set to be released theatrically on April 8, 2022. The film deals with the subject of child trafficking and the exploitation of women.
“It’s a deeply stirring subject and we have made it on a scale that only theatres could do justice to. The layered story at the heart of it needs to reach out to the masses and I am certain, the film will speak to women across the board. I can’t wait for the audience to meet Agent Agni on April 8,” the 34-year-old actor said in a PR statement.
8: Radhe Shyam (January 14)
People have been waiting to watch Prabhas and Pooja Hegde starrer Radhe Shyam on the big screens. A while ago, the makers dropped the trailer and people found it very intriguing. Radhe Shyam, said to be set in the backdrop of 1970’s Europe, has been in production since 2018.
Jointly produced by UV Creations and T-Series, the film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Kunal Roy Kapur, Sathyan, Priyadarshi, Murali Sharma, Sasha Chettri, and Riddhi Kumar. It will release in theaters on January 14.
9: Heropanti 2 (April 29)
Heropanti 2 has been directed by choreographer-director Ahmed Khan who previously directed two films in the Baaghi franchise.
Along with Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria, Gangs of Wasseypur actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will also feature in Heropanti 2.
10: Adipurush (August 11)
Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, is going to be the screen adaptation of the epic Ramayana.
While Saif Ali Khan plays Ravana, Prabhas and Kriti Sanon play Ram and Sita, respectively. Sunny Singh will be seen as the dutiful Lakshman.
