NEW YORK, NY – A five-alarm fire broke out in the Bronx, NY due to an electric bike catching fire inside a grocery store. Seven people were injured, including five firefighters, one EMS worker, and one civilian.

The fire quickly spread and consumed the entire grocery store and laundromat, causing significant damage and loss of jobs. Nearly 200 firefighters were called to the scene, and FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh reported that “there is nothing left.”

The rise in e-bike usage in the city has led to an increase in the number of batteries, and in turn, destructive fires. Mayor Eric Adams stressed the need to prevent illegal batteries from entering the city.
