Srinagar, Aug 17 (IANS) Chief of ‘Dukhtaran-e-Milat’ (Daughters of Faith), Aasiya Andrabi, was on Monday booked on sedition charges over the celebration of Pakistan’s Independence Day and hoisting of its flag.

Aasiya Andrabi, chief of the hardline women’s outfit, hoisted the Pakistani flag in the suburbs of Srinagar on Friday as her party activists sang the national anthem of the neighbouring country.

"An FIR (84/2015) under section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act has been registered against Andrabi in Soura police station," a senior police official told IANS here.

On August 14, the separatist leader had also telephonically addressed a rally organised by 2008 Mumbai attack plotter Hafiz Sayeed’s Jamat-ud-Dawa in Pakistan.

"Investigation is under progress and more sections will be added to the FIR if need arises," the official said.

On March 23, police booked Andrabi under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for observing Pakistan’s National Day and unfurling the Pakistani flag in Srinagar city.
