‘Don’t Be Overwhelmed’: Fans Troll Shastri As Ex-India Coach Boasts Of His ‘Incredible Feat’

Hitting six sixes in an over is a herculean task in itself. It is so hard to achieve this feat in cricket that it has only been done a few times.

The first cricketer to deposit six deliveries over the ropes in one over was West Indies’ Garfield Sobers. He smacked Malcolm Nash for 36 runs in an over during a county game between Glamorgan and Nottinghamshire in 1968.

17 years later, Ravi Shastri matched the feat by hitting Baroda’s Tilak Raj for six maximums. It was again a domestic game that saw a bowler concede 36 runs in one over.

Former chairman of selectors and wicket-keeper Kiran More, on Monday, took to Twitter to reminisce about the occasion and boasted about Shastri’s six-hitting prowess.

“On this day in 1985 when @RaviShastriOfc struck six sixes in an over against Baroda’s Tilak Raj, I was leading the side and keeping too! A very crafty bowler, Tilak, was at the receiving end of Ravi, who was in the middle of a great season. He could really hit big sixes #cricket,” More tweeted.

Shastri, proud of his achievement, thanked More and said the wicket-keeper batter had the best seat in the house to witness the carnage that was unleashed on that day by the former head coach of Team India.

Shastri, who is known to catch eyeballs whenever he posts something on social media, again was on the receiving end of some of the fans’ views.

Few urged Shastri not to be too overwhelmed by the feat as it was only domestic cricket while one user called Shastri and More ‘slaves of Greg Chappell’ — former India head coach.

Hahaha….don’t be overwhelmed too much buddy….that was still domestic cricket….

In international cricket, only three players have managed to hit six sixes — Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard.

Gibbs had achieved the feat against the Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup while Yuvraj smashed Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition of the World T20 for 36 runs in one over in South Africa. Yuvi also registered the fastest half-century in a T20I, reaching the milestone in just 12 balls.

Pollard was the latest entrant in the list as he hit Akila Dananjaya for six consecutive sixes in a T20I in Antigua.
