Did You Know Ranbir Holds An Unwanted Box Office Record That No Actor Would Like To Own?

Ranbir Kapoor made his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2007 dud Saawariya. However, he received a positive response for his performance and soon bounced back with romantic comedies like Bachna Ae Haseeno, slapstick comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and coming of age drama Wake Up Sid.

Over the years, he created a niche for himself and delivered some of the most loved films. However, there came a phase in his life when he delivered the biggest hit (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) of his career and followed it up with four flops (Besharam, Roy, Bombay Velvet and Tamasha).

But, he once again returned to form with Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, a biopic on the life of Sanjay Dutt that is currently the second highest-grossing film of Bollywood.

While Ranbir’s last release was, in fact, one of the biggest box office blockbusters, a lesser-known fact is that he holds an unwanted box office record that no other actor would want in their resume.

In the list of top 5 biggest box office disasters of all time in Hindi cinema, Ranbir Kapoor has two films.

These two films include 2015 dud Bombay Velvet and 2017 flop Jagga Jasoos, which Ranbir also produced.

According to Box office India, Bombay Velvet, helmed by Anurag Kashyap, has the lowest footfalls amongst the 5 films and was also the biggest disaster until 83 released and took over the top spot

Currently, Bombay Velvet is at the second spot with a meagre 22.24 lakh footfalls & a whopping Rs 70 crore loss. Jagga Jasoos, on the other hand, is on the fifth spot with footfalls of 49.74 lakh and incurred a loss of around Rs 50 crore.

Bombay Velvet was made on a budget of Rs 118 crore and collected a poor Rs 22.80 crore. Whereas, Jagga Jasoos was made on a budget of Rs 131 crore and collected Rs 52.61 crore.

So, to sum it up, Ranbir is a part of both the lists – top 5 biggest blockbusters & top 5 biggest disasters.

The other three films in the list include Ranveer Singh starrer 83 at the top spot with a loss of Rs 80 crore.

Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero at number 3 with loss of around Rs 70 crore and Hrithik Roshan starrer Mohenjo Daro at number 4 with Rs 55 crore loss.
