New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) A senior Delhi Police officer was on Thursday attacked by three people, including a woman, in an incident of road rage here, police said. All the three, including a minor have been apprehended.

Amit Singh, assistant commissioner of police in the Special Cell, was going to his office when his car was hit by another car in south Delhi’s Nizamuddin area around 4.30 p.m.

"Amit Singh, accompanied by a driver, was on duty in a government vehicle, having no police markings. When they reached opposite Lodhi Road Crematorium, one car driven by a minor hit Singh’s vehicle," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said in a statement.

The minor’s mother and her male friend were following him on a motorcycle.

Singh’s driver got down from the car after it was hit and signalled to the driver of the other vehicle to drive properly but he did not pay any attention and continued his rash driving.

"Singh’s driver again went to him to make him understand about the need to drive properly which led to an altercation between them. Watching this, Singh came out from the vehicle to protect the driver, who was surrounded by the gathering that had assembled there," said the statement.

He said the motorcycle-borne man along with the minor and others attacked Singh with a helmet.

Police apprehended three people, including the minor’s mother, from the spot.

"Singh, who tried to protect himself, faced injuries to his nose, head and face. He was taken to AIIMS trauma centre, where he is stated to be out of danger," a senior police officer told IANS.

Singh, who has been in service for the past four years, is a Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Services officer.
