Copenhagen, Nov 24: Legendary Danish footballer Michael Laudrup has rejected an offer to succeed Morten Olsen as the coach of the Denmark football team.

Claus Bretton-Meyer, CEO of the Danish Football Association said that Laudrup was always among the candidates for the post, but he ended negotiations too early because he believes that this job is not right for him now for personal reasons.

Laudrup was the leading candidate since Olsen announced last March that he would leave the national team by the end of the UEFA Euro 2016 in France.

However, Olsen declared his departure last Wednesday after Denmark was eliminated from the European competition in the playoffs against Sweden.

Laudrup previously coached prominent European clubs Getafe, Real Mallorca and Swansea City and was recently named as a candidate to lead the Mexican national team.

Laudrup, a former Danish midfielder of Spanish giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, is one of the most known footballers to have emerged from Denmark.
