Customs and Border Protection Seizes Unsafe Hair Dryers
HI INDIA NEWS DESK
BUFFALO, NY – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Peace Bridge Port of Entry Cargo Facility have recently confiscated a shipment of hair dryers in coordination with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CBP officers took action after the CPSC determined that these hair dryers did not meet the necessary standards for integral immersion protection, as mandated by the Standard for Safety for Household Electric Personal Grooming Appliances. Consequently, these hair dryers were identified as posing a significant product hazard under the Consumer Product Safety Act. A total of 65 hair dryers were seized, amounting to an estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of approximately $19,500.
Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone emphasized the CBP’s commitment to safeguarding consumers from both counterfeit products and items that fail to meet safety regulations. He highlighted the importance of collaborating with federal agency partners like the Consumer Product Safety Commission to prevent such products from reaching consumers, thereby mitigating potential health and safety risks such as electrocution or fire.
