Cabbie blackmails Indian women, lands in jail

MILWAUKEE, WI – A sweet-tongued Indian American cabbie who offered free rides to working women, developed friendly relations with them and later blackmailed them has finally got his just deserts.

Vikramjit Verma, who was hauled up in March, 2015 after one of his victims informed the police, has been convicted of felony and sentenced to four months in jail followed by a two-year probation.

The con man hails from Ludhiana, Punjab but is currently living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The yellow cab driver’s modus operandi was to spot Indian working women, both married and divorced, scrape an acquaintance with them and offer them free rides to their office.

Verma, blessed with the gift of the gab, would soon get close to his victims, snap their indecent photos only to later blackmail them if they did not part with their money or jewellery.

According to the police, who had found nude pictures of at least 60 Indian American women, including his wife’s, on his phone, the cabbie knew well that his victims’ Indian culture would force them to fulfil his demands lest he spilled the beans.

The Sikh Temple of Wisconsin and Hindu Temple of Wisconsin firmly stood behind the brave complainant and demanded strictest punishment.
