Day 1 : BMW Championship Golf : hiINDiA Sports

With Jason Day leading the current FedExCup standings at 4680 points, he again proved his prowess at the Conway Farms Golf Course  during the proceedings of the first day at the BMW Championship. He played consistently in superb fashion that included an eagle on hole #1. The Aussie ended up with -10 through 17 holes on the first day of this penultimate golf tournament in the FedExCup.

While the first day started off like a nice summer day, weather gods intervened and play was called off in the afternoon. “I felt like this was one of the best rounds I have played” commented Day in the press conference. It wasn’t until the ninth hole that Day realized that this is a par 71 golf course. Since 2000, the first-round leader/co-leader has won five of 15 times at the BMW Championship.

Day’s playing partner, Jordan Spieth, second in FedExCup Standings with 4169 points, excelled on hole No. 2 with an ace using a 7-iron from 184 yards. When asked how comfortable he was on the greens, Spieth mentioned – “I am not extremely confident in putting right now. I have tried to work on it pretty hard, but, just haven’t found the right rhythm.” Spieth through 17 holes was four strokes behind Jason Day.

On this abbreviated golf day in Lake Forest, World’s No. 1 golfer, Rory McIlroy was -3 through his partial round. The Northern Irishman who replaced Jordan Spieth as No. 1 in the world rankings, now needs a top 9 finish to have a chance to retain his numero uno spot.

Top 30 golfers on the FedExCup points following the BMW Championship qualify for the year-end TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. There will be a points reset following this tournament giving all 30 players a mathematical chance to win the FedExCup. Current top five prior to the BMW Championship included Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, and Bubba Watson.

Experts are wondering if the sport is entering a new era of Champions with the elite three ( Day, Jordan, McIlroy). Future performances by these golfers will dictate their place in golfing history. But, for now, the crowd at Conway Farms is certainly enjoying their golf talent.

And, on September 17th 2015, it was Jason’s day at Conway Farms.
