FBI Arrests Indian American Plastic Surgeon for Allegedly Drugging and Raping Women

TOLEDO, OH- The FBI arrested Ohio plastic surgeon Manish Gupta in Toledo on Friday on charges of illegally dispensing controlled substances, aggravated sexual abuse and sex trafficking.
Gupta, 49, owned and practiced at Artisan Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery in Toledo.
Federal investigators allege that Gupta drugged and raped an escort in Los Angeles in 2016. The woman reported the incident to police and also later found similar complaints against Gupta or someone matching his name and description on an online service sex workers to raise awareness of dangerous people who hire sex workers.
The woman and several others reported being recorded without their permission as finding SD cards or items used for drugging people.
A search warrant was executed at Gupta’s home, two of his offices, his car and his phone on Friday by federal agents.
Inside his locked office, agents found sex-related items, SD cards and vials of Diazepam and Ketamine — drugs not used in his medical practice.
Dr. Gupta is a board-certified plastic surgeon, is a medical doctor licensed by Ohio and Michigan. He is the owner of three medical offices, Artisan Cosmetic Surgery at 7634 W. Central Avenue in Toledo, 1050 Isaac Streets Drive in Oregon. His third practice is in Wayne County, Michigan.
According to his website, Dr. Gupta, completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston University. Upon completion of his medical degree, he began training in surgery and completed his general surgery residency at Huron Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Health System.
He also completed subsequent plastic surgery training at the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly the Medical College of Ohio hospital and Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center.
According to his website, Dr. Gupta is the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Mercy Health St. Charles Hospital and has served as the head of general surgery at ProMedica Bay Park Hospital.
