Indian American Diaspora Gathers in Support of Citizen Ship Amendment Act 2019
Over 200 NRIs of all ages gathered In front of the Indian Consulate at Chicago
CHICAGO,IL- Indian-Americans in Chicago land area held events in support of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which has caused a stir in the country. Members of Indian diaspora said that the CAA is a historic step taken by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Over 200 NRIs of all ages gathered at 400 North Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL. On January 4th, 2020 and also In front of the Indian Consulate at Chicago 455 N River front Plaza, Chicago IL , holding placards and raising slogans in support of government of India and the CAA.
People held placards reading ‘We Support Citizenship Amendment Act’, ‘CAA is about human rights’, ‘NRIs support CAA’, ‘CAA passed by transparent and democratic process’. Some of the members even used the name of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi to justify CAA and raised slogans of ‘We support Modi’ , ‘We support CAA’ and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai (Glory to Mother India).
On January 4th event, in support of CAA, was organized by the members of the Indian-American community in Chicago land Area which covers Tri-State Indian Diaspora of WI, IN & IL.
Group Organizer Dr. Bharat H Barai said that the Indian-American community thanks Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the decisions taken in the second term, including the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and CAA.
