Diwali Celebration and Annakut Mahotsav at The Hindu Mandir of Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, IL- From October 25th to November 02nd, the Hindu Mandir of Lake County celebrated Diwali with a series of traditional special Pujas and rituals. Annakut, one of the most auspicious days of Diwali Festivities was celebrated with hundreds of the devotees on November 02, 2019 evening at the Mandir with great devotion and splendor.

The program stared with the singing of melodious Bhajans by Ms. Kaushika Shah and Ms. Vasu Choksi. Many women devotees performed Raas-Garb in front of the deities. This was followed by the performance of special Pujas and Archana to Lord Ganesh, Lord Krishna and Ma Radha by Pt. Anil Joshi Ji and priest Yogesh Pandey. Pt. Joshi Ji offered Naivedyam of different home-made traditional Indian foods prepared by several devotees to the deities.

In his brief discourse on the importance of Annakut, Pt. Joshi Ji said that Annakut – literally meaning, a mountain of foods. On this day, a nicely decorated mountain of Govardhan is usually made by the cooked rice and also set up the activities showing the Raas dance scenes by Shree Radha Krishna with many Gopis and Gopas. Lord Krishna had asked his devotees to worship and offer food to the nature that fulfils all their needs and feed the poor first but the proud Lord Indra. Lord Krishna surprised his devotees by accepting their offerings in the form of mountain and letting the poor first to take foods whatever they wanted. That is why he is known as Daridra-Narayana. He kept his promise of treating all the devotees with love and kindness.

This year’s unique thalis of vegetarian delicacies included 150 items that comprised of fruits, snacks, and sweets, salads, and fruit drinks and were offered to Lord Krishna in a devotional gratitude for the past year and to seek his best blessings for the year ahead. After Aarati, the offered dishes were served to devotees and visitors as prasadam.

Pt. Joshi Ji thanked every devotee for attending and participating in the event and making it a grand success. He also blessed them for their good health, prosperity and success.
