SAAPRI Announces Incoming Executive Director
Shobhana Johri Verma takes over the reins of SAAPRI.
CHICAGO, IL- SAAPRI’s Board of Directors would like to thank Dhara Puvar for her years of service as Executive Director of SAAPRI
Puvar will be transitioning from her role in mid-August to pursue graduate school at Cornell University. We appreciate all the work Puvar has done in support of our communities. Some highlights include: Strengthening SAAPRI’s relationship with our partner organizations and leading efforts to build Chicago’s South Asian coalition Launching SAAPRI’s seminal report on H-4 work authorizationpolicy Creating a new and improved South Asian community asset map for Illinois and expanding SAAPRI’s data-driven resources Additionally,SAAPRI has published several reports and organized powerful community dialogues on issues ranging from immigrant justice, civic engagement, and access to health care. With Dhara’s leadership, SAAPRI’s reach has grown in breadth and scope in a short time and we are very proud of her accomplishments. We expect to continue this growth in the coming years with new leadership.
Dhara Puvar and Shobhana Johri Verma SAAPRI’s incoming Executive Director, will work together during the next few weeks in transition as Shobhana takes over the reins of SAAPRI.
Shobhana brings years of experience working with the City of Chicago Board of Elections as Director of South Asian Outreach. Throughout her career, Shobhana has been committed to community service and seeking meaningful opportunities to promote diversity and civic engagement.
