ICO Honors Indian Scholars at the Scholarship Gala

NAPERVILLE, IL – Saturday May 11, 2019, Indian Community Outreach (ICO) hosted their annual 2019 Lotus Scholarships and India Day Kick Off event at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. This event was attended by more than hundred and fifty community leaders and representatives.

The event kicked off by Krishna Bansal, ICO Chairman, with a warm welcome to Hon. Sudhakar Dalela, Consul General of India Chicago. Dr. Troy Hammond, President of North Central College and Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico delivered the keynote address. Schaumburg Mayor, Tom Daily and many elected / community leaders attended as the special guests.

Dr. Troy Hammond congratulated scholarship recipients while elaborating on rich history of over 150 years of North Central College. He also explained how the college is expanding their presence in the field of sciences and business curriculum.

Mayor Steve Chirico applauded the role of ICO in economic and cultural prosperity of Naperville. Consul General Hon. Sudhakar Dalela, brought forward his vision for the Midwest region and various upcoming events, with focus on the upcoming yoga day.

Krishna Bansal proudly gave a glimpse of ICO activities and contributions over the past 5 years and talked about the immense unity and support by ICO team, sponsors and volunteers.

ICO Lotus Excellence Scholarship 2019

Viral Shah (ICO Treasurer and Lead of Scholarship Committee) with warm welcome to everyone, talked about ICO Lotus Scholarship 2019, judging panel and introduced the scholarship recipients.

ICO recognized and awarded scholarships to the most deserving Indian American High School Senior applicants in Chicago Area. These awards were conferred to those who achieved an excellence level in the field of Arts, Academics, Sports, Community Service and Leadership as they align with ICO’s core principles. This program was started in 2016 as a vehicle to recognize students of Indian descent and highlight the accomplishments of our youth.

This year’s scholarship of $1000 each was awarded to Aarthi Kottapalli (Academics), Amit Somalwar (Academics), Ashwin Saxena (Academics), Suman Manek (Academics), Sumukh Kak (Academics) Presented by Viral & Tanvi Shah, Jai Gandhi (Academics) – Presented by Patel Brothers, in Memory of their Mother Late Mrs. Chancahal Patel, Adithi Arunkumar (Arts) – Presented by Cuisine of India, Arjun Kumar (Arts) – Presented by Smart Caliber, Mira Malavia (Community Service and Academics) – Presented by Patel Brothers, Alya Gupta (Community Service) – Presented by Krishna & Meghna Bansal in Memory of Late Mr. Rama Kant Bansal, Sathya Subramaniam (Sports) – Presented by V.C. Vasisth in the Memory of Late Mr. C. D. Sharma and Mrs. Sushila Sharma. Shruti Kolli received the scholarship and won the Mayor Pradel Award for Leadership, Community Service and Academics. Adam Patni was recognized with Excellence Award for Leadership.

External judges gauged the overwhelming number of applications that were received, and using a standardization rubric, to determine the awardees who were being recognized. With so many deserving students of Indian descent in the Chicagoland area, the selection process was no ordinary feat.

ICO is not only helping and recognizing our Indian American students for their hard work and dedication but also to make them future ready, and to assist in sending some of them to their dream colleges, said Dinkar Karumuri, Board Member of ICO.

2019 India Day Parade & Celebrations Kick-Off

The much-awaited announcement of 2019 India Day Parade & Celebrations was the highlight of the evening. This year’s event will be hosted on Sunday August 11th at Knoch Park, Naperville, from 11AM to 9:30PM and will continue to be free to attend for all. “By popular demand of our community, we are very excited to bring Sunidhi Chauhan, the Rockstar of Bollywood back”, announced Krishna Bansal and promised the breath-taking entertainment to Chicagoans.

ICO thanked, congratulated students, proud parents and everyone who attended the event followed by musical evening by renowned singer Nipa Shah and Shishir Jain followed by dinner.
