Fundraiser Event for Hindu Temple’s Consecration
LEMONT, IL- The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago (HTGC) located at Lemont, IL will be performing a consecration – Maha Kumbhabhishekam to the Ganesh Shiva Durga (GSD) temple in its premises from Thursday August 15 to Sunday August 18, 2019. The Kumbhabhishekam is once-a-decade ritual which is performed to “re-energize” the deities at the temple. The ritual, held once in 12 years, involves performing ‘maha homam’ and a number of religious activities for three days. Several priests from across the country and several thousands of devotees are expected to participate.
As a part of fund raising efforts for this grand event, HTGC is organizing a dance recital – ‘Talattu’ on May 5th evening at the Sama Rathi Auditorium. The dance recital will feature a performance by Rukimini Vijayakumar – an Indian film actress and bharatanatyam dancer from Hyderabad, India. In addition to numerous dance and theater performances, she has also appeared in several movies. Talattu (meaning ‘lullaby’) is a dance performance of traditional bharatanatyam pieces that showcase the intricate footwork, rhythm and touching expressions of the art. The event will open at 4 PM with performances by prominent dance schools from Chicago area.
