Annual Health Fair Organized at Shree Jalaram Mandir

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL- The Annual Health Fair organized at Shree Jalaram Mandir in Hoffman Estates, a northwest suburb of Chicago on March 2019 was a great success by all accounts.
Shree Jalaram Mandir has continued to organize Health Fair since year 2010.
There is no cost to individual who participate. The primary goal is to provide comprehensive medical checkup and needed consultations with various specialists all under one roof. Most attendees who took advantage of this event are those who could not afford medical insurance coverage, or had no access to medical services due to transportation or language barrier, due to economic constraints or residency requirements.
This year fair was divided in two parts – Sunday, March 31st and April 7th 2019. On both days, services were started sharp at 8 am and concluded at 1 pm. On March 31st, Blood tests, Urine tests, EKG, bone density and Body Mass tests were performed. Whereas, on April 7th results of testing were reviewed by 6 general physicians and the results were discussed one on one with participants. In addition, dental screening and guidance, dietician and diabetic education, and physical therapy was provided by expert in the field. Eye screening was provided by medical students from Chicago College of Optometry, Midwestern University – Eye Institute.
About 210 patients participated in free medical service and 90 medical / non-medical volunteers provided their un-conditional support. Patients and enthusiastic health care volunteers came from all over Chicago Metropolitan area to make this community service event a success. Volunteers managed the flow of patients from one station to another in a smooth fashion without much chaos or confusion. Patients received height, weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, urine analysis, EKG and bone density testing. Specialty consultants of internal medicine, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, dentistry, podiatry and optometry rendered free services at this event.
Bakulbhai Thakkar, Chairman and main coordinator from Mandir team and a senior member Jayantibhai Thakkar from Lohana Association of Greater Chicago, were overjoyed at the success of the fair and they
thanked the volunteers and doctors for their services. Attendees were served hot Masala Chai, breakfast and snack after blood work was completed. At the conclusion of the event, hot lunch was provided to all
the hard working volunteers.
