Oakton Names Prashant Shinde New CIO Effective May 6
DES PLAINES, IL – Oakton Community College announces the appointment of Prashant Shinde as the college’s chief information officer (CIO), effective Monday, May 6. Shinde is currently the chief information officer at Chicago State University.
Reporting to the vice president for administrative affairs, Shinde will provide leadership and vision for the use of information technology as a critical component for the success of the college, leading the Information Technology Division to include application development, application management, network services, infrastructure services and system administration, IT security, media and web services, and user support services. The CIO also has oversight for enterprise security of information systems and processes.
“We have an opportunity through digital technology to deliver an innovative service, which not only supports everyone working on our campus and beyond, but also paves the way for Oakton to become an IT leader within the higher education sector,” says Oakton Vice President for Administrative Affairs Edwin Chandrasekar. “Prashant is an innovative leader and will help us deliver outstanding digital and IT transformation projects for our students, staff and academic community.”
Shinde possesses more than 16 years of experience managing technology in higher education with expertise in Banner student information systems and related technologies, including the past seven years at Chicago State. There, he led the effort to increase internet speeds, provide campus-wide high-speed wireless connectivity, improve network security, standardize technology equipment across the institution, implement disaster recovery procedures, rolled-out single sign-on for multiple applications and deploy electronic documents and associated workflows.
“I am thrilled to join the Oakton community and help shape the next phase of the college’s information technology plan in alignment with its strategic goals,” Shinde says. “The college is moving in exciting new directions. I’m looking forward to engaging with faculty, staff, administrators and students in measuring positive progress.”
Prior to Chicago State, Shinde spent two years at Northbrook-based Allstate Insurance and was employed by Alcorn State University as director of academic technologies, instructor and technology consultant from 2002 to 2010.
Shinde has a master’s degree in computer science from Alcorn State and a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Mumbai, India.
