D219 Board Honors Tech Innovators
NILES, IL— Niles North junior Elizabeth Henderson and Niles West sophomore Zakariya Sattar were honored with the Technology Innovators Award by the Niles Township High School District 219 Board of Education at its December 18 meeting.
Zak Sattar is president of the App Development Club, and his enthusiasm for the club has helped increase student participation and retention. He helped organize the Computer Science Education Week activities that just took place at Niles West. Multiple speakers from companies including Google, United Airlines, Tempus, and Stroz Friedberg came to the school to talk about topics ranging from software engineering to data science and cybersecurity. Approximately 200 Niles West students participated in CS Ed Week activities.
He is currently helping Math teacher Kate Buttitta by creating an app that tracks students’ activity in class.
“Zak is incredibly talented at coming up with innovative and useful computer applications,” said Niles West Principal Jason Ness. “And the best part is, he’s only a sophomore. I’m sure he’s going to be a speaker at future CS Ed Weeks.”
