ST. LOUIS, MO- Center for Indian Cultural Education. Bal Vihar of St. Louis completed its 26th year in existence with the grand finale “Variety Show” on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The theme for this year’s variety show was “Vande Mataram” – Salutations to Mother India. The event staff and teachers wanted to encourage the students to explore the freedom movement of yesteryears, the rich culture and history of India.
Students from Kindergarten through Grade 7 were dressed in colorful costumes. While some were dressed as Indian soldiers, others were dressed as famous historic personalities or representing different region/culture of India. Students sang patriotic songs, performed instrumentals, fusion dances and put together acts around famous personalities like Adi Shankaracharya and Shivaji Maharaj. Older students recited Nirvana Shatakam. Each grade level put together a showcase of Bhajans and Yoga that they learnt throughout the year. A group of parents also performed Hath Yoga serving as a role model for the children and as inspiration for other parents.
The event once again showed the teachings and culture that has been imbibed in these students throughout the year(s). Parents were equally engaged and encouraged all the performers. The strength of Bal Vihar is the students, their parents and the selfless volunteers who put in countless hours to make sure every event is a grand success.
Dr. Sudhir Brahmbhatt, founder and president of Bal Vihar announced that the longstanding efforts and partnership with The Hindu Temple have yielded desired results. Bal Vihar will move to the newly constructed classrooms at Community Center next to the temple starting school year 2019-20.
