AT&T Launches Investigation into Massive Data Leak Exposing Millions of Customers’ Information on Dark Web

AT&T is currently conducting a thorough investigation into a recent data breach that occurred earlier this month, resulting in the exposure of millions of customers’ sensitive information, including social security numbers, on the dark web.

The company has disclosed that the breach occurred approximately two weeks ago and has since initiated a comprehensive investigation with the support of both internal and external cybersecurity experts.

According to AT&T’s statement, the leaked data appears to originate from 2019 or earlier. The breach has affected approximately 7.6 million current customers and around 65.4 million former customers.

AT&T is actively exploring whether the compromised data fields originated from its own systems or those of its vendors. Currently, there is no evidence suggesting unauthorized access to AT&T’s systems leading to the extraction of the dataset.

As a proactive measure, AT&T has begun notifying affected customers and has reset their passcodes to safeguard their accounts. Additionally, the company is providing complimentary credit monitoring services through Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion to impacted individuals.

Despite the severity of the breach, AT&T has assured that its operations remain unaffected by the incident as of the latest update.
