CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago/Illinois Chapter of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated the exceptional victory of the party in Delhi elections with some 200 dyed-in-the-wool supporters gathering at NorthShore Banquet Hall on Devon Avenue.

Motika Anand co-ordinated the whole event along with Minhaj Akhtar and Ajeet Singh, treasurer, FIA, and other Chicago volunteers. She thanked all the volunteers for their contribution in the polls.

The Chicago chapter had adopted the Kirari Constituency in Delhi where the candidate won by the margin of 45,000 votes.

Shalini Gupta, the global NRI coordinator, said that the results were very encouraging and NRIs would continue to support the party and also make sure that the party continued to follow the path of clean politics and transparency.

“The ball is in our court now to perform and prove our genuine intentions.” she said.

Dr Munish Raizada, a Chicago resident who has worked on ground for a long time until last year, spoke about the months of tough ground work which, he said, had helped the party to gain the huge support from Delhi voters.

AAP MLAs had implemented various projects using MLA funds, through Delhi dialogues and Jansabhas. This had created a personal connection with Delhi people which reflected in the results.

There were many supporters from the AAP Sikh Community. Lal Singh and Mat Singh Dhillon, extremely active volunteers, led the supporters of the Sikh community, and thanked the party for setting up a Special Investigation Team on the 1984 riots.

They extended their support in the upcoming Punjab elections, too. A large number of supporters from the Aligarh Alumni Association had also gathered for the event.

The AAP had won 67 seats out of 70 in the Delhi assembly elections early this year. After a spectacular debut in 2013 and forming a minority government for 49 days in Delhi, party founder Arvind Kejriwal had resigned from the government. The re-elections were announced by the Election Commission on February 7 and the results were declared on February 10.

NRI supporters across the world have been celebrating the success of the AAP. NRIs have played a crucial role in the AAP every time they went for elections through various means like funding, technical work, volunteering for constituency and conducting campaigns.
