House of Rep Approves Waiver to India Against CAATSA

US House recommends CAATSA waiver for India

WASHINGTON ,DC – The US House of Representatives have passed a voice vote for a legislative amendment approving waiver to Indians against the punitive CAATSA sanctions. The legislative amendment passed on Thursday, was introduced by Congressman Ro Khanna and provides a waiver to India against its purchase of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia to deter China.

The amendment asks the Biden government to provide India waiver with a Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) which authorizes the US administration to impose sanctions on countries that purchase major defense hardware from Russia in response to Russia’s annexation to Crimea in 2014 and its alleged meddling in the US 2016 Presidential elections.
