Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he was looking to discuss with G7 leaders topical issues such as environment, energy, climate, food security, health, counter-terrorism, gender equality and democracy in an effort to strengthen international collaboration on important global issues impacting humanity.

In his pre-departure statement before leaving for Germany and the UAE, the PM said he would be visiting Schloss Elmau, Germany, at the invitation of Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz for the G7 summit. Germany has also invited other democracies such as Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa to the summit.

The PM will also meet leaders of some of the participating G7 and guest countries on the sidelines of the summit. Modi said he was also looking forward to meeting members of the Indian diaspora from across Europe “who are contributing immensely to their local economies as also enriching our relations with European countries”.

On his way back to India, the PM will make a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for a meeting with the President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also the Emir of Abu Dhabi, to convey condolences on the passing away of his predecessor Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
