Virat Kohli as a cricketer is a brand and people look up to him as India’s Test Captain. He has stepped down as Test captain and this decision comes after India losing a series against South Africa recently.
He took to all social media platforms to announce this big decision. In his post, he wrote, “It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance everyday to take the team in the right direction. I have done this job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as the Test Captain of India, it’s now. There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey, but never has there been a lack of effort or lack of belief. I have always believed in giving my 120 percent in everything I do, and if I can’t do that, I know it’s not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team.”
He continued, “I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from Day One and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful. To Ravi Bhai and the support group who were the engine behind this vehicle that moved us upwards in Test cricket consistently, you all have played a massive role in bringing this vision to life.”
He also gave a big credit to MS Dhoni for believing in him and standing by his side all this while. “Lastly, a big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward,” he concluded his note.

As soon as Virat announced this big news, people started to share their opinions. People found it absolutely shocking to see Virat taking this decision and want him to think over it again. People have also questioned the BCCI and asked if the board has forced him to quit captaincy. A few people also dragged Sourav Ganguly and Rohit Sharma into the whole fiasco.
Here are the reactions:
Earlier this year, Virat had announced that he will step down as RCB captain.
“About this decision, I had spoken to AB in 2019. It’s not new. With the IPL, I was always in a space where I wanted to create a peaceful environment. We had this discussion and then I thought we will give it one more year. A restructuring of the management happened and things were much better in 2020. I felt a little more relaxed at that stage,” Kohli had earlier told Star Sports.
