Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra today said technique and fitness are very important in ensuring a good delivery in javelin throw.
Chopra, who recently received the Khel Ratna Award, was at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) here today during a felicitation ceremony. Chopra’s coach Klaus Bartonietz was also felicitated.
“There is no shortcut in sport,” said Chopra, who brought home India’s first individual athletics gold medal from the Olympics. “I had been preparing for the Olympics since February 2011. I spent 10-11 years to reach this position,” he added.
In javelin throw, grooming the technique is very important, Chopra said. “Along with strength training, we need to work on our technique from the beginning,” he said.
