‘Watercolour Hai Ya Kuch Aur?’ Uthappa Becomes Laughing Stock For Using ‘Sasta’ Hair Dye

MS Dhoni hogged all the limelight for playing a quick-fire cameo  down the order and getting his team over the line but the foundation for his eventual assault was laid out by their two top-order batters Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa.

While Gaikwad continued his dream run in the tournament and became only the second player to breach the 600-run mark in the ongoing edition, Uthappa, who had warmed the bench for the majority of the season, proved his worth and scored a brilliant math-defining half-century.

The veteran batter came into bat in the first over itself after Faf du Plessis was cleaned up by Anrich Nortje, with just three runs on the board. He got off the mark with a gorgeous boundary through covers on the very first delivery he faced.

Uthappa, who was traded from Rajasthan Royals ahead of this season, only got a chance because regular starter Suresh Raina was declared unfit.

Like any champion player, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and strung together a 110-run partnership for the second wicket with Gaikwad.

Uthappa scored 63 runs off just 44 balls, with his innings studded with seven fours and two maximums. His stroke play took us back in time when Uthappa used to dominate the bowlers in the IPL during his stint at Kolkata Knight Riders.

That said, more than his sublime knock it was his hair dye that got him more hits on social media. As has been the case throughout the second leg of IPL 2021, the players had to overcome the searing hot temperature and intense humidity throughout the match.

Was worried for a while, I thought he was bleeding watching on TV.

So, obviously, players sweat a lot throughout and Sunday was no different. However, the only difference was that it was so humid that Uthappa’s sweat gave the fans a false impression that he was bleeding.

Actually, the CSK batter has coloured the toe end of his hair red and that dye started to come off with his sweat, making the hind part of his neck and the helmet completely red.

As soon as fans realised it was his ‘cheap’ dye that was running all over the back of his neck and helmet, not blood, it led to a huge sigh of relief but more than that it led to a huge laughter riot on the micro-blogging site.

Forgetting the crucial knock that he played, fans started laughing at Uthappa’s expense and made him a butt of their silly jokes.

While some advised him not to use watercolours as hair dye, others suggested names of different dyes which don’t come off easily.
