Srinagar, May 19: Kashmir today reported 2594 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 23 people succumbed to the viral infection taking Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 3,355.
Those who died in Kashmir today include a woman from Baramlla, a 45-year-old man from Litter Pulwama, an 80-year-old man from Inder Pulwama, a man from NS Pora Kulgam, a 59-year-old woman from Srinagar and a 70-year-old man from Wadwan Budgam.
Those who tested positive include 675 from Srinagar, 371 Baramulla, 411 Budgam, 171 Pulwama, 190 Kupwara, 311 Anantnag, 113 Bandipora, 118 Ganderbal, 149 Kulgam and 85 from Shopian.

As per officials figures, 59,866 positive cases including 709 deaths and 51,829 recoveries are from Srinagar, 18,723 including 229 deaths and 15,709 recoveries are from Baramulla, 17,263 including 12,805 recoveries and 156 deaths are from Budgam, 11,185 including 8,613 recoveries and 142 deaths are from Pulwama, 9,806 including 127 deaths and 7,915 recoveries are from Kupwara, 12,242 including 7,815 recoveries and 142 deaths are from Anantnag, 7,337 cases including 6,242 and 81 deaths are from Bandipora, 7,284 including 6,156 recoveries and 65 deaths are from Ganderbal, 8,263 including 4,737 recoveries and 84 deaths are from Kulgam and 4,727 including 3,569 recoveries and 49 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached 156,696 including 125,390 recoveries and 1,784 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 50,494 including 29,522 from Kashmir division.
With 4,338 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 202,038 which is 78.96 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, Corona curfew continued for 20th day today in Kashmir and police arrested 232 people for violating the lockdown norms. The lockdown was imposed in Kashmir on April 29 and later extended till May 24.
Police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large numbers in Srinagar city, district headquarter and major towns to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The iron barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places to prevent public movement.
All the shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts.
Police arrested 232 persons, lodged 98 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,49,280 from 1041 people for violating the guidelines and rules in Kashmir.
“Besides, 111 vehicles were also seized in Shopian, Kulgam, Budgam and Bandipora for violating guidelines and restrictions,” police said, adding that the special drive against the violators of COVID-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by Government to curb COVID-19 pandemic.
