LOMBARD, IL— Sahara Homecare is offering free flu shots to Homecare Aides and staff in
conjunction with CVS pharmacy once again this year.
“Sahara decided to continue this initiative, because our caregivers are dealing directly
with seniors who are at really high risk for getting the flu or COVID. Some caregivers
are also going to multiple homes,” said Program Coordinator Samina Saeed in a

nearest location. “Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is not possible to say with certainty what
actually will take place this fall and winter. The CDC believes that there is a
possibility that patients can have COVID-19 and even the flu at the same time,” said
Batool Mehdi, pharmacist with CVS. “In this context, getting the flu vaccine is going
to be more important than ever.”
Sahara’s Community Care Program (CCP), which receives funding through the Illinois
Department on Aging, gives additional assistance to the elderly free of cost if they meet certain
qualifications. Homecare Aides assist clients with everyday tasks that can become difficult due
to old age and deteriorating health. Services include laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation, grocery shopping, as well as help with feeding, grooming, bathing and dressing among others.
To qualify, potential clients must:
Be 60 years or older, Be a U.S. Citizen or legal alien, Be a resident of Illinois, Have non-exempt asset value of less than $17,500, Have an assessed need for care, Have applied for Medicaid.
Besides the main headquarters in Lombard, Sahara has several locations throughout theChicagoland area including Skokie, Melrose Park, Hanover Park, Bolingbrook, Chicago, Albany Park, Justice, Elgin, and Mount Prospect. Starting wage for Homecare Aides is $14.00/hour and caregivers are eligible to receive health benefits if working at least 20 hours per week.
