ST LOUIS, MO – Bal Vihar of St Louis celebrated India’s 70th Independence Day with pomp and fun-filled events.

In the presence of a large crowd, Bal Vihar, also called Center for Indian Culture and Education, joined hands with St. Louis Art museum in celebrating the event on August 14.

Starting with flag-hoisting, children played both American and Indian national anthems on strings. The kids demonstrated and performed activities like group yoga and Indian cultural dances for the visitors.

A Bal Vihar school parent, Surekha Bidep, and her team organized a number of activities for the visitors–Indian traditional clothing station, mehndi (palm decoration) station for trying artwork on hands, coloring station for kids etc. Bal Vihar has its own student orchestra.

Dr. Sudhir Brahmbhatt, president of Bal Vihar of St. Louis, welcomed the audience and Dr Hamsa Subramanian acted as master of ceremony.

About 500 people witnessed additional performances like Indian traditional dances, music and songs. The art museum distributed Indian flags, colored cookies and juice to all the attendees.
