Baghpat, Dec 15 (IANS) Armed criminals attacked an Uttarakhand police party in Baghpat district of western Uttar Pradesh on Monday and escaped with their associate whom the police were taking for producing him in a court here, police said.
The incident occurred at Tateeri railway station about 35 km from Delhi. The criminals also looted three automatic weapons including an AK-47 and a self-loading rifle from the five-member police team.
The police team had brought Amit alias Bhura from Dehradun jail to Baghpat.
Amit, presently lodged in Dehradun jail in a murder case, is facing another murder trial in Baghpat court.
"Amit alias Bhura is a dreaded criminal of western Uttar Pradesh…Police teams have been constituted to nab him and his accomplices," said Ramit Sharma, DIG of UP Police at Meerut range.
