‘Evidence on 26/11 in Pakistan court is welcome’

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) India Monday welcomed Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) handing evidence on the 26/11 Mumbai attacks to a court in Rawalpindi and hoped "there would be some relief and satisfaction" once the court acts upon it.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said: "The fact that evidence has been provided to a court is welcome… and the fact that it is being shared with the media, there must be a good reason for that.. it is welcome."

The FIA provided a court in Rawalpindi photographs of Lashkar-e-Taiba training camps in Sindh and motorboats used by the 10 terrorists who attacked Mumbai to an anti-terrorism court conducting the trial of seven Pakistanis charged with involvement in the 2008 strikes.

However, Khurshid added that the Pakistani evidence "needs to be accepted by the court, and once there is conviction, we will have a sense of some relief and satisfaction."

Ajmal Kasab – the lone Pakistani terrorist to be captured among the 10 who attacked Mumbai in 2008 – was hanged on Nov 21 in Pune’s Yerawada Jail after his mercy petition was rejected by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

LeT’s Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and six other Pakistani suspects have been charged with planning, financing and executing the attacks on Mumbai that killed 166 people.
