Lausanne (Switzerland), Sep 29 (IANS) Three boxers have been severely reprimanded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for betting on boxing bouts during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the IOC said: "As there was no intent to manipulate any event, all three athletes have been issued severe reprimands and obliged to follow and contribute to various integrity educational programmes," reports Efe.

The three boxers involved are British Michael John Conlan, 24, competing in the bantamweight (56 kilogram) event, Steve Gerard Donnelly, 27 (welterweight 69kg) and Antony Fowler, 25 (middleweight 75kg).

The three athletes are required to demonstrate that they have successfully followed the educational programme of IOC, in order to have their accreditation validated for the next edition of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
