ZION, IL — On November 20, the Ahmediyya Muslim Community (AMC) of Zion, Illinois hosted an inter-faith event at Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep (CRSM) in Waukegan, Illinois.
The theme was, “Role of Religion in creating Peace in our Society”, an especially timely topic considering the fear, acrimony and violence that has been on the rise since the recent elections.
At this time of uncertainty, this event hoped to generate peace through understanding various religious traditions that were represented, including Judaism, Christianity, Sikhi and Islam.
The proceedings began with a prayer by Alpha Bah, President AMC Elder Men Auxiliary, which was followed by a welcome address by Jim Dippold, Director of Ministry for CRSM. Tayyib Rashid, Director, Public Relations for AMC, managed the stage.
Judaism was represented by Rabbi Lisa Bellows of Congregation Beth Am in Buffalo Grove.
Christianity was represented by Father Corey Brost, former President of St. Viator High School Arlington Heights, and currently working for Immigrants’ rights and to promote Interfaith dialogue via the Children of Abraham initiative.
Sikhs were represented by S. Gaurav Singh, who was introduced as Sardar Gaurav Singh.
Islam was represented by Imam Faran Rabbani of Upper Midwest Region Missionary AMC.
The program concluded with a question and answer session followed by a sumptuous meal.
