NEW YORK, NY — A disgraced doctor who was trusted to clear pilots to fly at JFK Airport has admitted to peddling oxycodone and other drugs to patients.
Gerald Surya pleaded guilty to more than two dozen counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the Manhattan Supreme Court and is expected to get five years’ probation and 500 hours of community service.
He also forfeited his medical license.
Surya, 46, was hawking prescriptions for oxycodone and other drugs for rates of $100 and $60.
The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan said he was making the illegal sales even after the JFK Medport was raided in 2014.
Brennan’s office opposed his probation deal which was ultimately offered by Justice Melissa Jackson.
"The office filed an extensive 17-page sentencing recommendation with the judge supporting the position we have always taken in this case — that Dr. Gerald Surya should receive two years in prison," said spokeswoman Kati Cornell.
